Lumiere
Beyond the happy-hour crowd at the glowing bar, you’ll find some of the most innovative food in town: an unlikely yet successful fusion of Chinese and South American cuisine. Stylish, delicious, unpretentious and with that killer IFC view.

Lung King Heen
The name means “view of the dragon” and the floor-to-ceiling windows make the case. For superb Cantonese cuisine, this place is hard to beat. Stylish deco—silver ceiling, Chinese antiques and sleek wood paneling—great views, flawless service and a combo of traditional and innovative dishes. We liked the little handles on the xiao long bao (steamed Shanghai dumplings), and the terrific Wagyu beef cubes with Japanese peppers.

OVOlogue
An uber-stylish Chinese restaurant housed in a 120-year-old
pawnshop, OVOlogue was opened by furniture shop OVO Home and may be the prettiest Chinese restaurant we’ve ever seen. It’s decked out with wooden screens, birdcages, French windows, high ceilings and stone archways. The food and drinks there are just as
delightful—the modern Chinese dishes, dim sum and special cocktails are served with amazing presentation.

Water Margin
The doors look like a modern glass version of an ancient Chinese literati residence, and you’ll need to know that because the name isn’t anywhere to be seen on the outside. Inside is sheer elegance and authentic northern Chinese cuisine bursting with flavor; a classy place for making that big deal,
or celebrating one.

Hutong
There’s no debate; this celeb favorite is gorgeous. With its dark, unlacquered wood furnishings and
fabulous harbor view, you simultaneously feel like you are in an upscale northern Chinese dining hall
and a modern, elegant restaurant. Food is beautifully presented Cantonese haute cuisine.

Ye Shanghai
There are two branches of Ye Shanghai, but if we had to choose we’d pick the Kowloon branch for its sprawling, fabulous nouveau Chinois décor. As for the food, it’s good, upscale Shanghainese cuisine served in shareable portions. Go for dishes such as the camphor-smoked duck with pancakes.
