Lyricist Wyman Wong
It’s hard to find a famous poet these days. But as Hong Kong’s most famous lyricist, Wyman Wong is as close as it gets (and a fashion icon to boot).

My whole life I’ve been exposed to glamorous clothes. My mother was a tailor, and she loved dressing up. When I was a kid she performed catwalk shows for us. I guess all boys with a mother who loves pretty things have a similar story.
It was a rough time when I finally got old enough to dress myself. I hadn’t developed a sophisticated style yet so I had some real fashion disasters. But in a way, I’m now more brave and creative when it comes to trying new things.
Errors are good. They help you find your own formula and develop a good sense of taste. But it also tempts you to play it safe. I have to remind myself that I need to take risks sometimes.
Some people might not agree with what you wear, but if you keep insisting, it will eventually become your own style and it’ll become accepted.
Every brand has a value. And I derive joy from possessing them.
Some things you’re born with, and everything else you learn from experience—at least in the fashion world. It’s like playing mahjong. You can’t choose your tiles but whether you win or lose depends on your skills.
Winter is better for fashion because there is more room for manipulating what you are wearing and creating illusions. In the summer, because it’s so hot, you have to show your real self.
