I was born the smallest in the family.
My sister and brother are at least 10 years older than me so no one played with me when I was young.
I was always looking for a companion.
My family kept guard dogs, but I didn’t have my first pet dog until I was 13.
The dog-human relationship is the purest among all relationships. We have other relationships but to dogs, their owners are all they have.
So I always tell people to be nice to their dogs because we picked them, they did not pick us.
Those who eat dogs are sick. When I heard that some Hong Kong people actually do that, I thought, “We’re back in the barbarian times.”
I urge people on the mainland not to eat dogs but they argue with me and say, “Well, you eat pork.”
It’s the same when I ask people not to wear fur. They say to me, “Well you wear leather shoes.”
I am not about to stop using leather bags or wearing leather shoes, and I do eat pork and chicken.
This doesn’t mean I can’t tell people not to eat dogs. Dogs are spiritual.
I became an actress because I don’t like to work something out by myself and I enjoy everyone getting together to finish something.
Only filmmaking is like that.
I didn’t really have a goal as an actress. My only wish back then was not to be assigned to costume-dramas because the shooting was much tougher.
I entered showbiz at a time when actors were still friendly to reporters. They still respected us and if you told them not to write something, they would listen to you.
We were co-dependant on each other. Being nice to each other would be win-win. 
Now it’s very unhealthy. They often make things up and accuse me of saying something I never said.
They have no credibility anyway so the public would never trust what they write.
Coming out to defend myself would just give them more opportunities to boost their sales.
Sometimes people criticize me because I devote my time and money to the SPCA.
They say, “Why are you helping animals when there are so many people in need?”
I believe in division of labor. Do we give all the resources and help to Aids patients because they are in need?
My job is to correct people’s misperception that pets are just animals.
Pets are not furniture. You don’t just ditch them when you don’t feel like you don’t need them anymore.
That’s why I never encourage my friends to keep pets. In fact, I always ask them to reconsider.
Pets are still discriminated against by many people. My neighbors tell me to wait for the next lift when they see me with my dogs.
It is always the fault of the human. No dog would bite if it were not irritated.
My dogs are part of my family. When I moved house, there was a great apartment that I decided not to take because the building only allowed one dog per flat.
I am not about to give my dogs up for a nice view.
