HK Magazine: Why do we need colon cleansing? Eve: The industrial revolution played a key part in it. Since the revolution, the food we eat contains many chemicals that are simply too complex for our bodies to digest. Toxins began to build up in our bodies, and I believe that a lot of sicknesses like depression, allergies and even cancer are related to the toxin buildup. If you read the news, colon cancer is a rising killer. HK: Who is prone to constipation? Eve: In my experience, females are more prone. There are two reasons: First, our abdomens are more jam-packed than men, since our organs are mostly inside our bodies. Second, females tend to be more suppressive emotionally. They don’t let go of things that easily. We apply this suppressive tendency to our toileting behavior. HK: So why do you work here? Eve: Constipation started it all. I was a PR back then and was severely constipated. I felt tired and irritated all the time. So when my friends told me about colon cleansing, I immediately looked it up. After the first session, I felt as light as a feather! After several sessions my health and emotional problems disappeared and I felt better! I thought it would be meaningful to help people improve their lives by cleansing their colons. HK: What was colon cleansing like back then? Eve: This service has been actually available for over 20 years, but people only started hearing about it in the last few years. In the past, colon cleansing wasn’t very “convenient.” The tube inserted into the colon was quite thick and you needed to hold the injected liquid in your bowel until it really, really hurt. Moreover, you were not supposed to pee during the session, though most people would have the urge to. If you really needed to pee, you had to take the tube out, put your pants back on and walk to the washroom - some people couldn’t hold it for that long-and “accidents” did happen. The therapist also had to stand beside you at all times, since the technique was not as safe as the one used today. Defecating is a very private matter and it is very difficult to do it while someone is standing beside you. HK: Who are your clients? Eve: There used to be more female than male, but now the ratio is more or less even. Men are less ashamed of getting help for their constipation. Most of our clients are middle-class, well-educated and open-minded. HK: I don’t see any male staff here though… Eve: The only male staff we have is the financial officer, so the male clients are served by the female staff. People do get shy the first time, but their worries go as time goes by. HK: Does colon cleansing make people lose weight? Eve: Not directly. Colon cleansing is not an exercise – you’d probably burn more calories chewing gum. Normal, healthy people carry 7-10 pounds of feces in their bodies when they are walking around and constipated people are carrying even more. So some clients do find they’ve lost weight . However, people’s reactions vary, and not everyone loses weight. We help to detoxify and regulate your body system, and that helps with weight management.
