Do bring your earplugs or an iPod – you will be praising the lord for your foresight when some over-enthusiastic marcher starts strumming “We Shall Overcome.” Do bring some friends with more than 30 minutes of chat – if you turn up at Victoria Park at 3pm, you’ll have a couple of hours to kill before you start walking. Don’t get drunk and abusive – It’s not big, it’s not funny and aggressive behavior simply has no place on this march. Do bring a smile – There is a lot of waiting around in the heat, but you’ll be amazed how patient people are. Bring a friendly attitude and wave at the people gawking from balconies and overpasses and you’ll fit right in. Don’t forget to re-hydrate – It’s always a hot and sweaty day so bring loads of water. Do relax and enjoy yourself – Stop off for some shopping or a beer, buy everyone an ice cream, make up your own funny songs and play games. When, where, how... The march route is: Victoria Park > Causeway Road > Irving Street > Pennington Street > Yee Wo Street > Hennessy Road > Queensway > Queen’s Road Central > Ice House Street > Battery Path > Central Government Offices. It starts in the park at 3pm, but it takes a while to get moving, so don't worry about arriving later - you can show up at 4pm, 5pm or even 6pm. You don’t have to walk the entire route – if you’re feeling lazy, or hungover just jump on the MTR and join the masses at a later point. Dig out your feather boas, paint your banners, and hit the streets for the biggest party of the summer: the July 1 march. Just make sure you know what you’re protesting.
