The Bowen Road Dog Poisoner
1989-to date: A long-standing nutter alert is still raised on the mysterious being also known as the “Bowen Road cat person.” His MO is leaving meat by the roadside, poisoned with dark purple crystals of the insecticide carbofuran, which kills passing hungry pets. Despite dogged pursuit, the poisoner has evaded the authorities for 17 years.
"Big Spender"
1991: Notorious gangster and kidnapper Cheung Tze-keung, aka “Big Spender,” pulls off the largest cash heist ever when he and two other armed men hijack a Guardforce security van at Kai Tak airport, tie up four security guards, and make off with ten sacks containing HK$167 million. Cheung is arrested when a security guard identifies him and sentenced to 18 years in prison, but is released on a technicality in 1995. “Big Spender” made most of his cash by kidnapping the wealthy. He is later arrested in Guangzhou for what’s believed to have been the kidnapping of Li Ka-shing’s son, Victor, and sentenced to death by firing squad. He was executed in December 1998.
