Nova

If you happen to be wandering around the car dealerships in the Wan Chai/Admiralty area, you may run into this surprisingly spacious little lounge. With a giant projector screen on the back wall and a huge selection of Cantopop, Mandopop and English hits from Britney Spears to Bob Dylan, it’s the perfect place to air out your voice before spring. Or just sit and try one (or several) of the varied and innovative specialty cocktails. The bartender recommends a particular purple concoction of lavendar and tequila. Most drinks carry a price tag of around $50.
38 Gloucester Rd., Wan Chai, 2527-1088.

Dope

Hear the word "karaoke" and think of cutie-pop and embarrassing green frogs? Not at Dope. Tiny and tucked away, this place fits about 30 people max and it’s first and foremost a quiet place to chill out with friends. A massive projector screen covers the back wall and if you’re sick of singing “Hotel California” and “More Than Words,” you’ll love the selection of English-only pop, rock and hip-hop here. Sometimes movies are run on the screen, depending on the whim of the customer, and you can also rent out the entire place for $5,000.
2/F, Well On Commercial Building, 60 Wellington St., Central.

ED

Like to drink? Like to play 15-20? Know what we’re talking about? eD is the place to be for drinking games and a spot of public singing. It has a comfortable ambiance with dim lighting, padded walls and a friendly staff. Song selection runs the gamut from old, old Canto tunes to surprisingly trendy English pop. Sponsored by Chivas, eD stocks plenty of whiskey to keep you happily inebriated while serenading your friends or playing the dice game.
17/F, Circle Tower, 28 Tang Lung St., Causeway Bay, 2572-3818.
