DJ Lee Burridge

DJ Lee Burridge started out on the decks in Dorset, UK, where he was spotted by a Joe Banana's exec. For six years he was the DJ of choice in Hong Kong, before being scouted by iconic DJ Sasha. Back in the UK, he emerged as a big name with a respected maverick style. Currently on the first leg of his 365 tour, he will take up residencies in seven cities including Hong Kong. He talks to Dominique Rowe about mobile discos and the Big Apple days.

I was the kid who was always in on Sunday nights, recording the charts off the radio.

My DJ career began in my dad's bar, on a mobile disco, on Boxing Day, 1985.

Fate crossed my path. I was living in the countryside in Dorset - beautiful, but immensely boring. One day, somebody handed me a business card offering me a job in Joe Banana's. That was the moment my life changed forever.

You have talented people, and you have pretenders who are better at playing the game - employing the right people, saying the right things, building up the hype.

The most surreal, rewarding moment of my life was Djing for deaf kids. To see them so happy, just feeling the vibrations of the music.

Big Apple in Wanchai became an institution after another party was closed down by police - suddenly there were 600 people on the street with nowhere to go, and they let us take over.
