Actress Carol Dodo Cheng Yu-ling
Iconic actress and two-time Golden Horse-winner, Carol Dodo Cheng is as famous for her determination and force of character as she is for her many starring roles. Currently she is the host of TVB’s popular “Justice For All” program and the star of the ubiquitous smart ID card ad. She tells Yvonne Young what keeps her going.

My dad left the family when I was seven. He came back when I was 14. My parents divorced when I was 20. By the time my father walked out, I already knew exactly what I wanted. I knew I didn’t want a family.
Having a bad childhood is not a bad thing. It makes you stronger, and you grow up faster.
When I’m depressed, I don’t indulge myself in misery. I solve the problem.
Marriage is not an issue to me. I don’t think I’d be a very good mother either.
I view the world as chaos. All this pollution, social pressure and economic competition... It’s just not enjoyable to grow up in the world. Why would you bring a new life into such unhappiness?
But most of all, I don’t have that kind of overwhelming motherhood strive to take care of someone. Why not spare the time to treat myself better?
