Drop It
Get dolled up for the weekend by dropping into Drop for its weekly “Moet and Manicures” night. Held every Thursday, $200 gets you a glass of Moet et Chandon, plus a professional OPI manicure in any shade you like. The event is popular though, so be sure to book in advance. Manicures? Moet? Why, that’s just a few of my favorite things! Add a kitten wearing an orange peel helmet into the mix and I’m in heaven.

Spa with Ma

Because I am the living embodiment of filial piety, I decided that it was high time I took Mama Fung for an afternoon of girly pampering. She had to go pick up some curtains over the border in Shenzhen, so on Sunday I left M gallantly fixing up runners at the “Stride for a Cure” event and traveled up to the Special Economic Zone for a fun day of shopping, spa and a mind-bending brunch in the “no-smoking” section of the buffet at the Shangri-La. But no terrifying, triad-run foot massage factory for us—we checked into the Ritz-Carlton in Futian for a first-class, ultra-luxurious treatment. The spa there is seriously five-star, with plunge pools, steam rooms and HUGE treatment areas. Having never tried a two-therapist treatment, I went for their signature Harmony massage (90 minutes, RMB1,680), where two therapists work with Beijing Olympics-like synchronization, starting at your head and feet, and then moving to your left and right sides to smooth away the day’s haggling-induced stresses. Mum had a Tropical signature massage (90 mins, RMB850), which combines shiatsu, lomi lomi, deep tissue and Thai massage techniques—with a touch of hot stone therapy. We’ll never be able to look at Queen Spa quite the same way again. 116 Fuhua San Rd., Futian District, Shenzhen, 86-755-2222-2222
