Big News: New Gym!

Obviously Lyndhurst Terrace has been turning into something of a waxing mecca of late. (Just look closely at those people walking up and down the street—are they wearing loose-fitting pants and wincing as they walk? They may have just been pruned—tee hee!) STRIP has just announced the opening of a brand-new outlet, just a stone’s throw from their flagship store. That’ll double your chances of a lunchtime Brazilian.

Big News: New Gym!
Seasons Fitness has expanded to the Dark Side with the launch of their much-anticipated Kowloon Bay outlet. With a whopping 21,000 square feet of space, the brand-new Seasons is decked out with all kinds of features, such as a Lance Armstrong “LiveStrong” spinning studio, a day spa with six treatment rooms, group classes, one-on-one training sessions and—my personal favorite—personal TVs on all of the cardio machines. And just so you’re not choking down fumes like the rest of us, Seasons has installed Oxyvital air purifiers so that you’re powering your lungs with fresh air, not particulates. Ah, if only I were still a Kowloon girl… I’d definitely fill out a membership form and then keep meaning to hand it in, but actually just leave it to disintegrate in my handbag.

Manly Pampering
More fan mail this week! OK, at no point did this gentleman actually declare himself a fan, but I figure if someone asks me for health and beauty advice, it positions me as some kind of authority, right? Mike asks: “Where can a straight guy get a facial, skin care, massage and day spa-type (legit) pampering in Hong Kong?” Well Mike, seedy massage parlors (certain Kowloon foot massage brothels notwithstanding) have long been marginalized in the men’s grooming world, and these days many top spas boast near 50-50 attendance rates for both men and women. Chuan Spa (pictured) at the Langham Place Hotel (41/F, 555 Shanghai St., Mong Kok, 3552-3510) regularly wins awards for its men’s treatments. Why not try the “Man’s World”? It’s a 75-minute back exfoliation, therapeutic massage and mini-facial for $1,045. While you’re there, take advantage of the rooftop pool and excellent steam and sauna facilities in the reassuringly manly deep green and brown surrounds. Alternatively, prop yourself up at the classy art deco bar at the just-for-men Mandarin Barber (5 Connaught Rd., Central, 2825-4088) that, in addition to offering haircuts and wet shaves, has a menu of macho mani-pedis, massage and facial treatments. If you want a less pricy option, the Japanese Dandy House spa is exclusively for men and has tons of well-priced treatment packages to lure you in. Find its three Hong Kong locations at www.dandy-house.com. I’m always here to solve your cosmetic conundrums, readers.
