Having a hard time envisioning Hong Kong as a city of romance? You don’t need to pay through the nose for a fancy meal to have a good time in this fair city. Here, we’ve created one itinerary to show how to live it large with Hong Kong’s most decadent date, and another one to prove that you don’t need to empty your bank account to have a great time.

No Expense Spared

Got a fat wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket? Then treat that special person to a day they’ll never forget (and neither will your accountant).

9am: Meet your beloved at the Peninsula (Salisbury Rd., Tsim Sha Tsui, 2920-2888) and whisk her up to the roof, where a helicopter from Heliservices (2802-0200, www.heliservices.com.hk) will be waiting to take you on a 15-minute tour of Hong Kong. The chopper does a full loop of Hong Kong Island before dropping you back on the roof of the Pen.

9:35am: You’re feeling extravagant, so pop open a bottle of Salon Le Mesnil 1964, Champagne Exclusive ($24,904 from French Wines, 11/F, Liberty Mansion, 26E Jordan Rd., Yau Ma Tei, 2723-1376) as you are picked up in a chauffeur-driven Mitsuoka Galue 350LX ($700 per hour from Avis Car Rentals, 2882-2927) to Pier 9 in Central. What surprises await there, we wonder?

10:35am: Board your private, traditional 70-foot Chinese junk ($14,000 from Saffron Cruises, including lunch and your own personal waiter). Crack open a $210,000 bottle of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Pinot Noir 2005 to drink over lunch (Watson's Wine Cellar, 9/F Watson House, 1-5 Wo Liu Hang Rd., Fo Tan, 2147-3641) and listen to the string quartet ($5,000 per hour from the Philharmonic Orchestra, 2721-2030) you’ve thoughtfully hired to entertain your lovely lady—or gent, for that matter.

5:30pm: After disembarking, unwind at InterContinental's I-Spa (18 Salisbury Rd., Tsim Sha Tsui, 2721-1211) with their Valentine's Couple's Spa Afternoon Tea for Two package ($2,500 for both of you). Includes a salt scrub, aroma massage and 30 minutes in the jacuzzi, all followed by afternoon tea in the Lobby Lounge.
