Resentful as I feel about funneling most of my paycheck directly into the pockets of Li Ka-shing (owner of Park N Shop, Hong Kong Electric, Watson’s, Fortress and, crucially, Watson’s Wine Cellar), I couldn’t help but be delighted that a teeny bit of the bath and body range from Superdrug (a UK pharmacy also owned by Mr. Li) is now available in Park N Shop.

Homesick Brits rejoice! Next time you’re picking up your dinner, swing by the beauty section and grab a body butter or body lotion, deliciously scented with coconut and shea butter, cranberry and pomegranate, or mango and papaya. The best bit? The freaking price! Every product costs less than 30 bucks. Available in larger Park N Shops citywide.
Muh Muh Muh My Zerona
As anyone who’s ever contacted me regarding a slimming treatment knows, I am incredibly cynical of any kind of miracle that promises to shed the pounds without you having to put in the necessary work (i.e., getting off your ass and doing some exercise). Most of these treatments in my opinion are at best useless, or at worst, dangerous. However, when I got an email from Kendy, who works for a company that distributes the Zerona slimming machine, something (perhaps the post-CNY squidginess I’ve been cultivating) compelled me to take a closer look. The Zerona system is a cold laser machine that allegedly breaks down fat cells, allowing them to be removed by the body. FDA approved, it’s doctor-operated and there’s no invasive procedure, pain or downtime involved—in fact, all you need to do is lie there for 20 minutes on your back, and 20 minutes on your front, and let the lasers do their stuff. Hm. I’m still a little skeptical (online reviews range from raving to raging), but if you want to try it for yourself, Dr. Tinny Ho at Skin Central offers the treatment. Each 40-minute session costs $3,000-$4,000, and you’ll need around six sessions to see results. So: not cheap, but still cheaper than a lipo session in the Bumrungrad.

If you’re in TST and in dire need of a manipedi, go check out the newly opened, cute-as-a-button Cupcake Nails. At just $80 for a manicure, and $188 for a pedicure, the price is certainly right. If you prefer more complex nail rituals, then Cupcake also offers UV gel nails, soak-off soft gels and acrylics. The skilled technicians also offer Japanese and Korean-style nail art, rhinestones and something called “water marble designs” (no idea). The salon uses Essie and OPI lacquers, and also offers a home manicure service at no extra charge.
