Cosmo Hotel

Cosmo Hotel

375 - 377 Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai, 3552-8388, www.cosmohotel.com.hk
Location:
Cosmo is a stone’s throw away from the commercial district of Causeway Bay and next to the Happy Valley racecourse. The Causeway Bay MTR is an eight-minute walk away and there’s a shuttle service to Times Square.
Décor: The rooms are colored orange, green or pastel yellow in a faux-60s theme. And the room numbers aren’t on the door, but highlighted on the ground.
Amenities and facilities: 20-inch wall-mounted LCD TVs and flat panel computers in all executive suites; there’s also a business center, dry-cleaning service, and broadband internet.
The good: Cosmo has 40 non-smoking rooms if you don’t like smoke-infested sheets and blankets.
The bad: Standard rooms face a cemetery but they try to hide that with frosted windows.
Rates: US$180 - US$515
Room size: 160– 500 square feet

Hotel LKF

33 Wyndham St., Central, 3518-9333, www.hotel-lkf.com.hk
Location:
This is not to be confused with the similarly named “Lan Kwai Fong Hotel” on Kau U Fong. It’s perfect for party people, perched right above Lan Kwai Fong on Wyndham Street. The Central MTR station and various shopping malls are just a stroll away.
Décor: It has a gorgeous, sophisticated and contemporary design, with leather and suede and other warm fabrics. Also expect to see lots of ivory, camel and wood colors. Decent art adorns the walls.
Amenities and facilities: Coffee machines in rooms, a DVD player, 42” Plasma TVs, and 24-hour room service summoned with the click of a button marked “Care.”
The good: Awarded first prize in the Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards (APIDA 2006), the décor alone is worth checking out.
The bad: The online service is iffy, but the biggest complaint is the music traveling up from the streets below till the wee hours of the morning.
Rates: US$386 - US$836
Room size: 500-950 square feet

The Fleming

41 Fleming Rd., Wan Chai, 3607-2288, www.thefleming.com.hk
Location:
Located in the heart of Wan Chai, and in walking distance to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Décor: “Urban chic” describes the stylish décor perfectly. The hotel takes pride in their minimalist concept with straight lines and neutral tones.
Amenities and facilities: 24-hour concierge service, goose-down duvets and luxury linens, a complimentary daily newspaper and access to California Fitness Center, plus a business center.
The good: The Fleming is going to open a women-only floor (well, it is in Wan Chai). This floor will come complete with amenities especially for ladies like a facial steamer and a beauty kit.
The bad: Small rooms won’t allow for partying and dancing.
Rates: US$155 - US$316
Room size: 225–385 square feet

Jia Hong Kong

1-5 Irving St., Causeway Bay, 2810-0532, www.jiahongkong.com.
Location:
Jia is in the most bustling bit of Causeway Bay, just minutes away from the MTR
Décor: Jia is the first Philippe Starck designed boutique hotel with an interior focusing on spatial clarity with areas clearly defined by sheer curtain dividers. The teak wood floors, marble tables and white stone is pretty stylish too.
Amenities and facilities: Free broadband, DVD home theater units, goose down duvets and luxury linen, special access to KEE private members club, 10 percent dining discount at Dragon-i, access to California Fitness Center.
The good: The Shanghai Tang uniformed staff are happy to help you with their laundry service, but Jia offers a self-service Laundromat if you don’t like people going through your dirty clothes.
The bad: There’s no 24-hour room service and no view.
Rates: US$232 - US$772
Room size: 380-1,570 square feet
