JAR's new summer menu

Cookies and mint cream dessert

There’s a beautiful new summer menu at JAR, as I learned last week while lunching with owner Bridget, who kindly ordered a little bit of everything (which meant a little bit too much) for the two of us. I am absolutely in love with JAR’s cookies and mint cream dessert, which tastes a bit like the ice cream flavor but is much lighter and very refreshing. It comes in a transparent jar with a little mint leaf “growing” out of layers of chocolate cookie crumbs and green mint mousse, just like a perfect little houseplant—too cute! JAR’s wagyu beef cheek—cooked in a style similar to sous-vide—is also a welcome change from the usual braised pieces we find in restaurants. The cheeks are superbly tender, almost gel-like, and dissolve in the mouth with little effort. And of course, the flatbreads are lovely as ever—this hasn’t changed since the restaurant first opened its doors late last year.
