Fall/Winter Fripperies
It was the fall/winter press preview at Joyce Beauty last week—yes, just like fashion, beauty brands work through the seasons, too. Tons of exciting stuff going on at the luxury beauty house, with several new product lines hitting the shelves. One I’m particularly excited about is Wei, a luxury skincare label that uses ingredients from traditional Chinese medicine in its products. I can’t wait to try out my starter kit, which includes a Chinese rose cleanser, jujube anti-aging serum, Tibetan safflower face cream and Tibetan chrysanthemum eye treatment pads (all $450). As an individual with former goth leanings, I’m also a big fan of the Panda Pen ($330), which is kinda like white-out for your under-eye area. Just swipe under your eyes and clear away rogue mascara and smudged eyeliner in seconds. Find it all at Joyce Beauty come September.

Great Deals Corner
Calling all organic skincare enthusiasts! New Zealand brand Dr. Wendy’s has just launched in Three-Sixty, and to celebrate they’re offering a free bottle of toner worth $200 with every purchase of a full-sized Dr. Wendy’s product. The deal is available from now until September one, so get down there tout de suite.

Here’s another promotion that you might be interested in. This one comes from one of my favoritest spas of all time: The Peninsula Spa by ESPA. The “Serene Spa Journey” begins with a consultation with one of the spa’s expert therapists, then a 30-minute full body exfoliation and a 90-minute massage, all designed to ease stresses and relax body and mind. After the treatment, you’re treated to a light and healthy three-course lunch at the Peninsula poolside, followed by an afternoon lounging in the pool and using the heat and water facilities, such as the experience shower and crystal steam room. To help you carry on relaxing after the session, the spa will also give you an iPod Shuffle (yes, to keep— I checked) pre-loaded with soothing spa music and an eye pillow, which you can use on the MTR on the way home—kidding. The whole package costs $2,250 (plus 10 percent) and is available from now until October 31.

Feeling Needled

The Consumer Council has just issued a warning to spagoers that sticking needles on your face is a bad idea. A bit of an obvious statement, but given the fact that the dangerous practice of smearing lead on your face fell out of vogue a couple centuries ago, yet the stuff still crops up in whitening creams on a semi-regular basis on this side of the world, the watchdog probably figured that the news bears repeating. Apparently, one of the most recent trends in beauty salons around town is “micro-needle” therapy, in which needles are stuck onto a roller and then applied to your face. The tiny wounds are said to stimulate collagen production and increase the absorption rate of beauty products, but after several complaints from (unsurprisingly) injured women, the Council has tested the rollers and categorically stated that these needles have no benefits whatsoever, and if not properly sterilized can transmit diseases such as hepatitis. So there you have it people, don’t stick needles in your face.
