There Once Was a CE Named Henry…

The rumor mill has seemingly confirmed what we’ve known for a long time: Beijing has selected Henry Tang as the next Chief Executive. But of course, nothing’s official until you get a page of sarcastic limericks in HK Magazine. Congratulations, Henry Tang!

Next year we’ll bid good-day,
As Bow-Tie finally goes away,
The elite few will gather,
To decide who’d they rather,
Shoe-shiner B or A!

The “election” will be no surprise,
The outcome’s in front of our eyes,
We don’t want them smart,
To have guts or a heart,
And certainly not anyone wise!

There once was a Hong Kong Socialist,
Whose leanings left China quite pissed,
His name was C.Y.,
But we do wonder why,
A commie state would reject a leftist!

There was talk of a woman called Rita,
As CE, who could
be sweeter?
But t’was a forgone conclusion,
That she would be losin’,
And someone more submissive would beat her.

So our new leader’s to be Henry Tang,
The scion of a Shanghai textiles clan,
Let’s uncork the best red,
Declare a couple of trees dead,
And welcome Beijing’s new yes-man!
