Pure Fitness' KBT Workout

Pure Fitness has just launched a brand-new one-on-one fitness program that they’ve dubbed KBT: a workout using a combination of kettleballs, Bulgarian bags and TRX resistance training straps.

So I figured for once I’d focus on the “Health” part of “Health and Beauty,” put down the spa menu and check it out for myself. Most of the workouts involve swinging Bulgarian bags (basically gigantic banana-shaped leather pouches filled with sand) over your head in a big circle to exercise all your muscles at once, and swinging kettleballs (they look like shot puts but with a handle) through your legs to tone your thighs and bum. The TRX is good for doing pull-ups and push-ups while strengthening your core.

The instructor kindly asked what kind of personal training style I prefer (I’m more of a “you go, girl!” than a “drop and give me 10, maggot!”) and said that I did pretty well for a first-timer—though he did ask me if I’d ever done a squat before.

What I like most is that you get to step outside of yourself for 45 minutes and just hurl a bunch of heavy shit around.

So from now until October 31, Pure is offering first-time visitors the chance to purchase three KBT sessions to be used over 15 days. Throughout that period, you also get unlimited gym access, plus 50 percent off your joining fee if you decide to sign up with Pure afterwards.
