Bare It All

The saddest thing about the short-lived Sephora makeup store, which came and went in the blink of an eye a couple years ago, is that for one brief minute, uber mineral makeup brand Bare Escentuals was available in town. After extolling the virtues of its BareMinerals powder foundation and converting a couple of friends to the brand, poof—it vanished. But now the Shisheido group has acquired the distribution rights and it’s coming to Hong Kong again—yes! The foundation comes as a loose powder which glides on like a cream and gives an amazing glow to the skin. It’s perfect for those with oilier complexions and those looking for lighter coverage—it’s natural-looking so you don’t get that creepy foundation mask when people are using flash photography on you. The visiting trainer from its first foray into the Hong Kong market told us that it’s so safe for your skin you can apply it before going to bed and just get up and go the next morning. But that’s disgusting and weird, so don’t do it. Following a swanky launch event (to which I was NFI—not fucking invited), it’s now available at Harvey Nichols and Faces in Harbour City.

News from Nude

Congratulations to Nude, which has just opened its second top-notch waxing outlet on Wellington Street. So just to recap, that’s Strip (two outlets), Nude (two outlets), NU Waxing, Spa BPZ and Sense of Touch (two outlets) all whipping excess hair off the ladies of Central within a 50-meter radius of each other—and you know what, they’re all so popular you can hardly get a reservation after 6pm, even with a week’s advance booking. Weird. Anyway, so Nude has opened its new boutique together with its lingerie shop Avec Amour, which offers frilly knickers and pretty pants to go with your freshly-waxed bits. Their opening party was last week, and I suggest you go check it out asap.
