Mango Tree Opens in Causeway Bay

The buzz: Boasting an international presence in cities such as Bangkok, Dubai, London and Tokyo, Thai restaurant Mango Tree has arrived in Causeway Bay. The restaurant is headed by Thai chefs Virat and Vilai Kanjan, who have been preparing Thai cuisine for more than 25 years and have worked at five-star hotels, including the Shangri-La.

The décor: Going for an air of contemporary elegance paired with authentic Thai, Mango Tree is all teak wood, ceramics and glass. The entrance is trimmed with mirrors and candles, and when you walk into the resto you’re greeted with a spacious, open area with big windows and long wooden tables, with little corner nooks for more intimate dinner dates. Wooden shelves of terra cotta line the windows, and glass baubles housing lights crowd the ceiling. Adding to the sense of authenticity is the tableware, which is all hand-made by residents of northern Thailand’s hills—no two pieces are exactly the same.

The goods: Mango Tree does classic dishes from all corners of Thailand—their specialties include char-grilled pork neck fillet, curry crab, and Tom Yum Goong. It flies most of its spices fresh from Thailand, while the majority of its produce is sourced locally.
