The buzz: Earlier this year, Abercrombie and Fitch announced that it would be opening its first Hong Kong store—and promptly elbowed Shanghai Tang out of its Pedder Street location, where the chic Chinese brand’s flagship store had made its home for 17 years. Shanghai Tang adapted quickly by opening the Shanghai Tang Loft on the sixth floor of the same building. More importantly, in the spirit of traditional Mongolian nomadism, the Shanghai Tang Mongolian Village is open atop Central Ferry Pier 4 from now until December 31.
The décor: You can shop in authentic Mongolian yurts, or gers, on the rooftop of Central Ferry Pier 4. With Hong Kong’s spectacular skyline as a backdrop, take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront for a break from some retail therapy.
The goods: The gers house Shanghai Tang’s limited-edition Mongolian collection—an assortment of winter items that includes jackets, bags and household items in rich reds, blues, grays and earth tones—as well as seasonal gifts and classic, ready-to-wear apparel. Leave it to Shanghai Tang to make the best of a bad situation.
