This weekend, man’s best friend can step out of our shadows as the trusty and loyal sidekick by spending the weekend with Paws by the Sea at Hong Kong's first pet-friendly mall, Stanley Plaza.
But if your little buddy doesn’t have “sit,” “stay” and “roll over” down pat, then head to the plaza on Sunday for some training 101 with Rosemarie Tang.
Tang is a US Nationally Certified professional pet dog trainer with an Animal Behaviour Counsellor Certification from the San Francisco SPCA. She has worked for the SPCA in Hong Kong but now owns a dog training/walking/pet sitting center called Pawsitive Tails in San Francisco.
Tang will teach a 30-minute class before the festival attempts to break the Guinness World Record of "Largest Dog Obedience Class” (the previous record being 319 dogs). During the class, the dogs will learn two completely new tricks:
1. "Right-Side Finish" - dogs have to walk around their owner 270 degrees in a clockwise direction, then sit on the owner's left side and look up at them.
2. "Stationary Marching” - dogs lift one of their paws when the owner lifts one of their legs.
Registration for the world record attempt is free, and there will be a shuttle bus from Admiralty to Stanley (one handler and one dog only). The area for the event can fit approximately 500 dogs, so be a pal and take your pooch to the biggest event on the canine social calendar.
