Teebs at XXX This Friday
Music producer and visual artist Mtendere Mandowa, better known to the art and experimental music world as Teebs, will be performing at XXX on Friday, January 20th.
Having contributed to the likes of the Red Bull Music Academy, Dublab and the Brain Feeder Records roster, this New York born, LA-based artist’s diverse production techniques have long-since guaranteed global recognition of his deep-rooted music credentials.
Teebs told NPR Music in an interview that in one track "you're hearing a harp, shakers, recorded drum taps [...] and change falling." His calypso influenced music also “kind of stems from hip-hop,” he acknowledges, but while these themes are foundational, Teebs signature sound and the genre he stimulates have long since evolved into a whole ‘nother kind of animal.
But this man is about more than just music. A hero to the once underground electronic music scene known simply as “beat music,” Teebs has been an instrumental player in propelling the genre out of the shadows and into the limelight.
Containing a little bit of everything and then some, who knows, you might even dance like a deranged and drunken dervish possessed. We certainly will.
