UPDATE: The official SPCA 2012 Pet Adoptathon will be taking place this weekend on the 5th and 6th of May at Various SPCA Centre’s across Hong Kong.
APRIL 24 NEWS: The SPCA is hosting the 2012 Pre-Adoptathon Carnival on April 28th with animal adoption stories, charity sales, games, education booths and adoption information to kick off this years Pet-Adopathon.
For nine consecutive years the SPCA has been hosting a Pet Adoptathon in May to continue their efforts in the prevention of cruelty to animals. The society has managed to re-home over 2,500 animals in the past year and has been caring for animals in Hong Kong since 1921.
The SPCA conducted a survey in Hong Kong which revealed that 55% of respondents prefer to go online or to a pet shop to find a new furry pal than adopt (many people think of the adoption process as a hassle). Beginning as a small venture in New York in 1995, the aim of the Adopathon has been to raise awareness about adoption and--through the effort of over 2,000 shelters from around the world joining the Animal League--to save as many animals as possible.
The Pre-Adoptathon Carnival will be held from 2-5pm on East Point Road, Causeway Bay (outside Sogo).
