Speaking of martial arts gyms, it seems as though more are popping up every day. Walking back from Central one afternoon, I came acrossHayabusa on Queen Victoria Street (it has another outlet in Mong Kok). This smallish club offers more than 50 jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, Muay Thai and boxing classes per week, with membership starting at $398 per month, or $598 per month to use both outlets. If you’re already into martial arts, then check out the retail space at the front of the gym, which sells everything from body armor to bandages.

Greece might be in the financial doldrums, but one of its leading skincare brands is making its presence felt all over town. Organic brand Apivita has been on the PR offensive for a few months now, with a flagship store on Lyndhurst Terrace and a newly launched line of treatments at the Landmark MO’s Oriental Spa. I was invited to come down and try the new “Golden Honey Journey,” a two-and-a-half hour treatment (scrub, massage, facial) that uses Cretan honey and royal jelly to moisturize and soften one’s skin. The first step was a body scrub using pure crystallized honey—it was quite sticky, and as it was slathered on, I couldn’t shake the slightly absurd thought that I’d be a pretty appetizing snack if a bear burst through the treatment room door. However, once I rinsed it all off, I was left feeling decidedly smooth and softened. The massage portion is extremely relaxing and uses a light touch, so it’s better for people looking for relaxation rather than muscle manipulation.
I rarely do facial treatments these days as too many of them will wreck your skin, but I made an exception for this super mild treatment, which focuses on gentle anti-aging with the help of masks, face massage and moisturizing creams with no harsh chemicals. To be honest, the treatments at the Landmark MO are always excellent, and this new one is no exception. The therapists are brilliant, the facilities top-notch, and if you’re a fan of all-natural products but don’t want to skimp on that feeling of indulgence you’d hope to get when spending a ton of money in a high-end spa, then this is definitely one to try.The treatment costs $2,100 (weekdays) and $2,280 (weekends).
