Watch Out For… The restaurant world is on fire! Here’s a list of the latest establishments joining the scene: Carnevino (5/F, LHT Tower, 31 Queen’s Rd. Central, 2532-7700) : Mario Batali and Dining Concepts’ latest project, Carnevino, is all about steak and fine wines. Located right on top of Lupa (Batali and Dining Concepts’ first collaboration), the space gives off an old boys’ club vibe, with masculine touches and lots of wood and leather. It’s a proper steakhouse, in short. Expect USDA Prime cuts accompanied with artisanal salt, and lots of starchy sides such as Tuscan fries, mashed potatoes and creamed corn. La Creperie (G/F, 69 Jervois St., Sheung Wan, 2679-4666) : La Creperie’s Wan Chai branch is doing so well that they’ve expanded to Sheung Wan’s Jervois Street. Serving French crepes and galettes Brittany-style, you can have yours with ham, cheese, ice cream, bananas—you name it, they probably have it. L’Altro (10/F, The L Place, 137-141 Queen’s Rd. Central, 2555-9100) : French-Italian chef Philippe Leveille of Michelin-star fame has set up shop at The L Place, offering authentic Italian fare with just a bit of French influence. Scampi tartare, seafood pastas and quail are just some of the dishes chef Leveille will be cooking up. Socialito (Shop 2, G/F, The Centrium, 60 Wyndham St., Central, 3167-7380) : Latin American cuisine is on fire in Hong Kong, and Socialito by the Buzz Concepts group is hopping on the bandwagon with Mexican specialist Socialito, dishing up tacos and margaritas all night long. And don’t worry—they’ve completely redone Prive’s former digs. Getgo Fresh (Shop 1110, Kitchen 11, Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Rd., Causeway Bay, 2350-0077) : Rather than loading you up with fatty fries and other greasy treats, Getgo offers food court patrons light and healthy options like turkey paninis and banana smoothies. Upcoming You Heard It Here First! Ina (2/F, Holiday Inn Express Hong Kong Kowloon East, 3 Tong Yin St., Tseung Kwan O) : Ina is a sister restaurant of the famous Inagiku chain, found at the newly opened Holiday Inn Express in Tseung Kwan O. Expect scrumptious sushi, teppanyaki and tempura here. The Salted Pig (2/F, The L Place, 139 Queen’s Rd. Central, 2870-2323) : Se Sa Me has sadly said bye-bye, but the Shore group is already busy with their next project. The Salted Pig is all about European-style comfort food—and pork, of course. The pork knuckle sandwich is a signature, but you’ll also be able to find beef and chicken dishes here. Having spoken to the owners and gotten a more well-rounded story behind Se Sa Me’s demise and Salted Pig’s imminent rise, stay tuned for more details about this new venture in my next column!
