With the weather slowly starting to turn milder, junk trips are less about cooling off with copious beers and more about chilling out with good friends and great food. Here are some of the newest junk catering services in town, plus a couple of old favorites thrown in for good measure.

Gallic Gluttony

French catering needn’t break the bank, and Monsieur Chatte’s new junk menu is surprisingly reasonable. Prices start at $100 per head (rising to $300 for the fancy menu) and include cold cuts, deli chickens, classic tarts and quiches, salads and cheeses. Bread, plates and cutlery are thrown in for every order. For dessert, think petit almond cakes, fresh fruit tarts or intense chocolate cake. The minimum order is for 10 people, and all deliveries are made to Central pier nine. Make sure to give them three days’ notice. Beverages, dips and nibbles can be arranged on request.

Booze-Absorbing Carb Bonanza

A tiny kiosk underneath the Mid-Levels escalator, Pasta Mio serves up hearty, starchy Italian fare to help fill up boozy bellies. Think specialties such as lasagna, mac n’ cheese, chicken and sage meatballs, sandwich platters and salads, with cookies to serve as sweets or snacks. Junk menus start at $595 for six. Two days’ notice is required.
27-29 Hollywood Rd., Central, 2530-2830.

Asian Party Trays

Dim sum on a boat? Sounds good to us. Wilfred Catering offers classic Cantonese fare, which is perfect if you’re entertaining out of town guests—or, like us, you’ve been out the night before and consider dumplings the perfect hangover remedy. In addition to steamed goodies, Wilfred also offers spicy chicken with cashew nuts, ma po tofu, chicken and salted fish fried rice and spring rolls. If Cantonese ain’t your bag, then you can also go for Thai or Japanese. The buffet costs $130 per person (minimum 20 people) and delivery can be arranged at a cost of $150 to anywhere on Hong Kong Island.
