Lazy Hikes: Waterfall Bay Park

Located in Pok Fu Lam’s Wah Fu Estate, you’ve probably seen Waterfall Bay Park as you go past the western side of the Island on a junk trip. Hidden away underneath Bel-Air, the main attraction of this park is (perhaps unsurprisingly) the tall waterfall that cascades down to a rocky, pebble- and flotsam-strewn beach below.

Wander around the area and take in some World War II relics before taking a left along the entry gate and walking along the promenade, where you’ll find local retired kaifongs (neighbors) playing chess while sitting among hundreds upon hundreds of porcelain deities, which, instead of being abandoned, have been stuck onto rocks and walls facing the sea—a retirement home of sorts.

Although the traditional Chinese gods are amply represented here, you’ll also find piggy banks and other kitschy sculptures that someone clearly couldn’t bear to simply throw in the trash.

Getting There: The best way to get there (besides by taxi) is to take a bus. Buses to Wah Fu are 40, 40M, 30X or the 4 from Central. Once there, walk along Wah Fu Road, and you should arrive at Waterfall Bay Road on your left-hand side. The Waterfall Bay Park is located further down the road.
