Do you know of any places in Hong Kong that sell exotic animals legally?
Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
I am a big fan of reptiles and amphibians, having kept a pet snake as a child when I was living abroad. I am currently looking to buy a salamander or gecko; as I know that there are really strict rules and requirements on exotic animal ownership in Hong Kong, I don’t have an idea of how I can acquire one without potentially breaking the law. Do you know of any places in Hong Kong that sell them legally? – Exotic Pet Lover
You are talking to the right person, Exotic Pet Lover! Pay a visit to Reptile Paradise (140 Tung Choi St., Mong Kok, 2395-7457, www.reptileparadise.com); here you’ll find everything from geckos, pythons, salamanders, tarantulas and even scorpions. Established in 1994, it even imports endangered reptiles from around the world. But not to worry, they’re all brought in legally and satisfy the import requirements set by the Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. Otherwise, you can check out The Hong Kong Reptile and Amphibian Society’s website, which regularly lists reptiles, amphibians and other exotic pets up for adoption.
