High Street Yoga Fashion

Financially embattled fashion brand Esprit might be teetering on the void, business-wise (it shut down all operations in North America recently), but while it’s still selling in Hong Kong, you might want to check out “Wellness,” its new line of athletic wear that’s geared more towards yoga, Pilates and dance types than triathletes—think soft, slouchy, breathable fabrics, ballet cardigans and stretchy vests, with cobalt blue and salmon pink accent pieces over a palette of grays and blacks. It’s also doing a line of yoga mats and water bottles to complement the range. If you’re sick of paying through the nose for top-end yoga apparel then you’ll be pleased with the prices too—yoga pants and light jumpers ring in at around $300 to $400, while tops are roughly $200. I for one plan to snap up a few comfy pieces for plane travel—and perhaps use them for a little bit of gentle exercise on the side. The collection hits stores on November 1.
Available at Esprit outlets citywide, including 1/F, Lee Theatre Plaza, 99 Percival St., Causeway Bay, 2890-4390.

Boots in HK!

If you’ve spent any time in the UK, then you will be falling out of your seat in excitement to know that Boots, the British pharmacy, will be hitting our shores very soon. It already has a strong presence in Thailand (where Hongkongers go to stock up on pharmaceuticals that are hard to get here) but it hasn’t successfully established a Hong Kong foothold yet. Somewhat disappointingly, though, Boots won’t have its own standalone store. Rather, its beauty brands—including No. 7 (amazing eyeliner) and Botanics—will be on the racks of established retail outlets. Hey, it’s better than nothing. This isn’t the first time Boots has tried to crack Hong Kong; I definitely remember a few concession counters in Watsons around 10 years ago. Here’s hoping this time will be more successful—I’ll update you with details as soon as I know more.

More Breast Cancer Awareness Deals

We’re two weeks into Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so here’s another special offering that allows you to raise funds and awareness for the disease, and also do something fun at the same time. The Peninsula (Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, 2920-2888) has been a long-time supporter, and this year it’s offering a slew of fundraising promotions, my two favorites being the drinks deal at their first-floor bar and a special pink spa treatment. If you’re in TST and want to slake your thirst, head to The Bar and have a pink lychee martini ($128) or non-alcoholic fruit bellini ($98). All proceeds will go to the Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry. The spa is offering a $2,000 treatment, $400 of which will go to the Registry. The two-hour spa ritual includes pink macarons to start, followed by a 25-minute scalp massage with pink mud for the hair and scalp. To finish, you’ll get a 90-minute aromatherapy body massage and a five-minute Damascus rose oxygen inhalation treatment.
