The 7th Asian Film Awards

The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society announced the nominees for the 7th Asian Film Awards which will be taking place on March 18 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong. Hong Kong represents with nominations from four different categories.

The Asian Film Awards celebrates the talents of Asian cinema and has been known as the "Oscars of Asia." In the 14 award categories, 70 nominees from across Asia are being recognized for their excellence in cinema. This year, South Korea is in the lead with 16 nominations.

“An Eye on Asian Cinema” is the theme for this year’s awards. At a press conference yesterday, Andy Lau was named as this year’s Jury President. He will be heading a panel of 11 jurors in selecting the winners in each category.

This year Hong Kong has received five nominations. Tony Leung Ka-fai has been nominated for Best Actor for his role in "Cold War" and Chapman To has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the movie "Diva". Other nominations include Best Production Designer and Best Costume Designer.

The Last Supper (Mainland China)—nominated for Best Actor (Liu Ye), Best Cinematographer and Best Costume Designer

The 14 categories include Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenwriter, Best Cinematographer, Best Production Designer, Best Composer, Best Editor, Best Visual Effects and Best Costume Designer, along with two special awards for 2012’s top grossing Asian film and the Excellence in Asian Cinema award.
