Aeolian Ride Comes to Hong Kong
If you're interested in becoming a big, inflatable, moving piece of city art this year, then just the right kind of event is coming to Hong Kong to satisfy your needs.

Looking to participate in something a little different? An inflatable bike ride that claims to be the only one of its kind in the world is coming to Hong Kong. The event is open to anyone confident on two wheels, and it’s free to sign up.
Inflatable, it turns out, refers to the riders rather than the bike itself. During the Aeolian Ride, participants adorn “sculptural costumes” that inflate as the wind blows through them, and costumes (which are limited) come in three different shapes: a bunny, a bubble and a raindrop.
Participants will meet in Tai Po at the Sai Wan Bicycle rental shop at 10am on Sunday, April 28 2013, and the 90 minute ride will commence an hour afterwards. The destination is Tai Mei Tuk, and after the ride, the recently deflated will be treated to a BBQ lunch.
By race day, the first fifteen people who raise over $2,600 for Charity: Water will receive “personalized bike aura portraits” from Jessica Findley, the Aeolian Ride artist. The charity will also purchase a well for a village that needs clean water; their modus operandi.
The first Aeolian Ride happened on July 4 2004 in New York City and was designed in part to relieve the city’s trauma in the wake of 9/11. The ride is meant to serve as live art and bring joy to both participants and spectators while momentarily changing the cityscape. There have been 22 Aeolian rides in 19 different cities across the globe.
