Is it just me, or was March a really, really boozy month? With weddings, the Rugby Sevens and parties up the wazoo, I feel like everyone I know has nursed a sore head or two over the past few weeks. But hangovers also come with a whole bunch of health and beauty fails. Tired, gray skin, under-eye bags and AWFUL breath are just a few of the secondary symptoms of a hangover, making the nausea and headaches all the more unpleasant. But not to worry—there are a good number of tried-and-true tricks out there to make you look heavenly—even if you feel like hell.

Did you stagger home at 3am and then wake up at dawn because you forgot to draw your curtains? Yep, your poor old eye bags will be so enormous that you might as well throw them on the floor in the middle of a club and dance around ‘em. Fortunately, it’s fixable. First, de-puff your eyes by laying something cool on them—I find that the can of Pocari from which I’m gingerly sipping works quite well. Then make sure that ALL your eye makeup from the night before has been taken off. Nothing says “all-night rave” like residual smudges of mascara that you’ve half-heartedly tried to take off. After that, apply some under-eye concealer—YSL Touche Éclat ($300) or Benefit’s FakeUp ($240) both work well—and pat gingerly. Finally, nothing says “tucked up in bed with a glass of milk by 10 o’clock” like a faint dusting pale shimmery eyeshadow over your entire lid. Try MAC’s new stay-put cream shadow pots ($165).

You know what I’m talking about—that creased, ashen-bordering-on-green look that everyone who’s ever stayed out too late will recognize. If staying at home with the mirrors covered in black fabric isn’t an option, the first thing you have to do is make blusher your friend—the rosier the better—and just go to town. Incidentally, this is also a trick that morticians use on corpses. I’m digging Chanel’s blusher in Rose Tweed, which comes with its own mini brush ($395). If you feel the need for foundation, mix a small blob of your regular foundation with two parts moisturizer for light but effective coverage that’ll help moisturize your parched skin.
