Osteopaths at Central Healing, Christophe Robin's Scalp Scrub Shampoo and Bodywise

Baby got Back(pain)
Having never been to an osteopath before,I went to check out six-month-old Central Healing on Lyndhurst Terrace last week. Osteopaths specialize in body manipulation, identifying and correcting long-standing postural problems, and easing muscular-skeletal pain by looking at the patient's body and lifestyle. The center also provides therapeutic massages to address muscle-related complaints. The center gets a TON of office workers who suffer with work-induced bad posture, and Nathalie the osteo and Justin the massage therapist work hard to treat injuries while also making sure that they don’t recur. After a very intense session with each of them, during which trigger points were pressed, spines were cracked, postural habits enquired about, and poor office ergonomics gently chastised, I went home that evening feeling I’d had the stuffing knocked out of me. However, after a hot bath and an excellent night’s sleep, I awoke feeling inches taller, my shoulders noticeably further back and my spine delightfully stretched. Nathalie’s advice to regularly roll my back along a foam roller has also helped immensely with a niggling back ache—a result of me having my computer monitor at a weird angle because I hate having people watching my screen (I have to Google some really weird shit for work). For July and August, the therapeutic massage is $8,000 for 10 60-minute sessions (regular price $8,500) or $11,000 for 10 90-minute sessions (regular price $12,000). There are also packages if you only want five sessions, and for a one-off it’s $900 for 60 minutes and $1,300 for 90 minutes. If you want to see an osteopath, a one-hour consult is $1,100 and a 30-minute follow-up session is $750.

Do you ever get that icky feeling that no matter how many times you wash it, your hair just isn’t clean? I usually get it after using half a can of hair spray on a big night out, although grease and pollution also leaves my hair feeling ick. For anyone with the same problem, I highly recommend Christophe Robin’s scalp scrub shampoo. Made with large grains of sea salt and formulated for sensitive or oily scalps, it can soothe the scalp after a dye treatment, gently remove excess oil and get rid of external residue such as styling products. Here’s the rub though: a 250ml tub is $450. But if you have scalp problems like the ones I mentioned, you could probably stretch it out as a once-a-week treatment for at least six months. Or at least that’s how I justify it to myself.
Easy Trapezey
So a couple of months ago, we had an absolutely awesome readers’ event at Bodywize in Happy Valley, where our readers (and myself) got to try out an anti-gravity yoga session, where you’re basically suspended at waist-height and you use a fabric hammock to complement your moves. It’s awesome fun, so news of another center offering a similar class is definitely a good thing. The Aerial Arts Academy offers Flyoga, a trademarked technique that combines acrobatics, yoga and dance in a challenging workout. Right now it’s offering classes on Sundays only, from 12:30-1:30pm and 1:30-2:30pm. Prices at the academy work on a credits system; Flyoga classes are two credits each, or $300, although this price gets lower the more credits you buy. If you just want to give it a go, your first class is free.
