Dragon Death
Chow Yam-nam, a Thai-Chinese soothsayer who claimed to be a reincarnation of the “White Dragon King,” dies in his sleep. He was 76. Many Hong Kong celebrities, including Andy Lau, Tony Leung and Jackie Chan, worshipped him and it was widely believed that his blessings and advice helped them become successful celebrities.

A 70-year-old woman falls asleep while heating up a can of abalone in boiling water. She wakes up when the can explodes, sending abalone all over the kitchen. Firemen carry out an inspection and conclude that there is no danger of a gas leak. The woman reluctantly throws away the overcooked abalone.

Coloring Book
Parents complain that a kindergarten textbook offers an overly simplistic explanation of the world’s races. The Longman textbook shows four children of different skin tones. The yellow-skinned child is Chinese; the white-skinned child is American; the brown-skinned child is Indian; and the darkest child is from the Congo. A racial equality activist says it’s inaccurate to equate skin color with nationality.
