Watch Out For…
Upper Modern Bistro (6-14 Upper Station St., Sheung Wan, 2517-0977) is one of the latest restaurants to set up shop in PoHo. Owned by chef Philippe Orrico, who used to head St. George at Hullett House, the resto serves French tapas and other fusion fare.
Café Deco Pizzeria (Shop R1005, Elements, 1 Austin Rd. West, West Kowloon, 2196-8099) will give ICC office dwellers and Elements shoppers one more lunch or post-work option. A jazzy space with brick walls and hanging lamps, CDP serves unconventional pizzas such as duck, Moroccan lamb, and hazelnut-strawberry-banana (for dessert, I hope).
There’s no shortage of places to get a caffeine fix these days. St.Francis.St (9B St. Francis St., Wan Chai) is one of them, serving coffee from UK roasters Nude Espresso and Climpson & Sons. The shop also stocks accessories by UK brand Ally Capellino and baked goods from local brand A Piece of Delight.
After a brief hiatus, American staple Lawry’s The Prime Rib (Shop 201, 2/F, Hutchison House, 10 Harcourt Rd., Admiralty, 2907-2218) has relocated to Admiralty, continuing to serve prime ribs and other meaty goods in an atmospheric, wood-centric space. The old Lawry’s in CWB’s Lee Gardens is no longer. (Gonpachi and An Nam have moved in instead. Check out my write-up from the previous week here.)
Looking for something sweet after dinner? Get your fix at HeSheEat (Shop 4, G/F, Ngai Hing Mansion, 22 Pak Po St., Mong Kok, 5571-3056), a western-style dessert shop that serves everything from waffles to crepes to milkshakes to soufflés to chocolate fondant. It’s a two-story space, with quirky touches like cartoon walls and dangling lights.

Overdose on fish eggs at Tosca (102/F, The Ritz-Carlton, ICC, 1 Austin Rd. West, West Kowloon, 2263-2270) as Chef Pino Lavarra prepares a six-course dinner menu with sustainable caviar as part of every dish. Whether it’s potato focaccia or spaghetti with chives, you’ll be getting a healthy dose of oscietra or sturgeon roe on top, underneath, on the side—you get the point. It’ll set you back $3,000 plus service per head—but the price is a tried-and-tested formula, given the overwhelming response to last year’s similar promo. Available now until December 23.
