Cheap and Alternative Dates in Hong Kong
So you’ve finally scored yourself a date, but you’re out of ideas—and money. Adam White has 20.5 ideas for great dates that won’t burn through your savings.

1. Walk and talk
Take a stroll through Hong Kong Park. Start on Kennedy Road, wander through the aviary (look out for the HUGE Victoria Crowned pigeons, which are the largest in the world—up to 75cm long). Then meander through to Admiralty and kiss under the fountain, before drying off over a spot of Star Street people-watching and a glass of something cold and white at Classified (31 Wing Fung St., Wan Chai, 2528-3454).

2. Dance a little closer
There’s no better excuse to squeeze someone tight than a touch of Argentine tango. Let’s Tango holds beginners’ lessons in Wan Chai or Central: $190 for walk-in customers. Culture Club, 15 Elgin St., Central, 9223-5629; Amico Studio. 2/F,
167-169 Hennessy Rd., Wan Chai, 2827-9233, www.letstango.com.hk.

3. Catch a Hong Kong classic
Snuggle up for a screening of the “100 Must See Hong Kong Movies” series at the HK Film Archive. Tickets are just $40. Sadly you’ve just missed Herman Yau’s 1996 Category III classic “Ebola Syndrome,” starring Anthony Wong as a murdering psychopath who spreads the ebola virus across Hong Kong. Perfect date movie.
50 Lei King Rd., Sai Wan Ho, 2739-2139, www.filmarchive.gov.hk.

4. Take the cut-price city tour
You will need: One bottle of acceptable wine. Two paper cups. $4.40. Board a tram to Kennedy Town at the Happy Valley terminus. Sit at the front and ride it all the way. Do not do this at rush hour, or on a Wednesday. Late night is best.
