Mott 32, Churros D’Amour, Opera House Italian and Jamie Oliver is set to open Jamie's Italian

A Chinese Revolution
Maximal Concepts is at it again. This time, they’ve come up with a swank 170-seater Chinese diner called Mott 32 (Standard Chartered Building, 4-4A Des Voeux Rd. Central, 2885-8688), specializing in Beijing, Sichuan and Cantonese dishes such as Peking duck, cheung fun and things with sizzling red chilis scattered all over them—essentially, it’s all of my favorite foods rolled into one restaurant. Dim sum is available, and you might find some creative twists on classics—black truffles or cinnamon might make an appearance in their beef short ribs or barbecued pork. This is serious business—they even have their own roast duck oven! And the group is definitely right on the pulse of a bigger “trendy Chinese” movement that’s making its way through cities like New York and Singapore.

Churros Bros
Churros D’Amour (43 Dundas St., Mong Kok) is an exciting new spot in Mong Kok offering the delicious deep-fried Spanish treats paired with things like Nutella and ice-cream. It’s opened by a Frenchman named Dorian, who grew up with this streetside snack—that’s also popular throughout France. He’ll be serving waffles and crêpes topped with fruits and other goodies as alternative options.

The Naked Chef Does Hong Kong
Jamie Oliver and his Jamie’s Italian (2/F, Soundwill Plaza II, 1 Tang Lung St., Causeway Bay) brand are coming to town, for real this time, six years after his original plans for the city fell through. Diners can expect a casual dining space and lots of fresh pasta, an antipasti bar, as well as hearty sharing plates. And of course, the restaurant will have a strong focus on sustainable ingredients that go hand in hand with Jamie’s healthy brand image.
