Build Your Own Home Theater

A Night at the Movies

Sometimes there’s nothing like movie night in the comfort of your own digs. Snuggling up in your jammies on the couch with a never-ending bowl (see: pint) of ice cream and a bottle of wine sounds way better than relying on expensive ice box cinemas. So whether you’re after a quiet night alone, a cuddly date option or an inexpensive girls’ night, think about turning a section of your 500 sq. ft flat into a personalized home theater. Icing on the cake? A “please silence all mobile devices” sign.

I love movies. Whenever my film professor papa and I are together we have a habit of watching a new movie every night. And while his house has the perfect home cinema setup—blackout curtains, intimidating sound system and seating arranged specifically for TV viewing purposes—my place is still a work in progress. Below are my dream items (switch the microwave popcorn out for an old-school popcorn machine) for a 3D home theater. Once completed, I’ll never leave the house. Hong Kong summers
are too hot to be outside anyway.
