Szeto Wah

1. Szeto Wah
The godfather of democracy, former teacher Szeto “Uncle” Wah dedicated his life to fighting for political freedom. Possibly the most principled and respected person in Hong Kong politics, ever.

2. Tina Leung
The first Hong Kong starlet to appear nude on screen also claimed to have been a spy for the Communists, was a successful businesswoman in the aerospace industry, authored four books, and later presented a documentary series called “A Century of China” to great acclaim.

3. The King of Kowloon
Graffiti artist and megalomaniac Tsang Tsou-choi left his distinctive, beautiful calligraphy all over Hong Kong, although most of it has been painted over. In his work he complained about everything and claimed his supremacy over basically everyone. A true Hongkonger.

4. “Longhair” Leung Kwok-hung
Sure, his angry, finger-jabbing, Che T-shirt wearing schtick might be tiresome for some, but Hong Kong is all the better for having Longhair around.

5. Simon Go
The founder of Hulu Culture (www.huluhk.org), an NGO dedicated to preserving Hong Kong’s distinctive character, Simon Go strives to protect and preserve everything from neon signs to traditional crafts.

6. Chris Patten, Awkward Hero
The final governor of Hong Kong, who we’re apparently SO not over. On a recent visit, he was recieved by a welcoming party that sobbed and begged him to come back. Read our interview with him here.
