Art Basel Hong Kong
Hong Kong’s number one art event rolls around once more. This year, over half of the 245 galleries attending the four-day show have exhibition spaces in Asia, meaning Basel’s bringing a ton of talent from much closer to home. New this year is the Film section in collaboration with the HK Arts Centre, which will be a 3-day program with screenings of international works, and local work from Kwan Sheung-chi and Christopher Doyle.

Asia Contemporary Art Show
The largest satellite event of the Art Basel weekend will be taking over five floors of the Conrad this year, with a line-up of 100 exhibiting galleries from all over the world. You’ll see works from celebrated artists such as Andy Warhol, Peter Blake and Banksy, as well as from a diverse range of emerging artists too. Asia Contemporary also provides a rare chance for collectors to meet and interact with artists themselves—more than 70 artists will be attending the show this year. Sadly, Warhol can’t make it.

Hong Kong Contemporary
You won’t find 19th century Impressionists here; this hotel fair is all about contemporary work. Exhibitors are mainly from South Korea, London and Hong Kong; leisurely viewings and reasonable prices are the name of the game here.

Asia International Arts & Antiques Fair
Do you prefer ancient teacups to gauche daubs of paint on canvas? Get your fix of Buddha statues, bronzes, jade pieces, musical instruments and rare books at the ninth annual Asia International Arts & Antiques Fair in Kowloon Bay.

“Prologue” by Fredrikson Stallard
London design partnership Fredrikson Stallard is exhibiting a 4-meter tall, 8,000-Swarovski-crystal-studded sparkly beast of a sculpture titled “Prologue” at newly opened design hub PMQ, debuting May 13.

“(alpha) Pulse” by Carsten Nicolai
Sound and visual artist Carsten Nicolai is taking over the ICC with the biggest installation at Art Basel this year, and everyone with a smartphone can take part. Inspired by neural feedback pulses, Nicolai’s installation will light up the ICC each night on Art Basel weekend, and viewers can download a free companion app which will add an extra layer to the experience. 
May 15-17, 8:30-9:20pm. Best viewed from Tamar Park, Admiralty, or Podium 3 and 4 of IFC Mall.
 
“Apocalypse Postponed” Art Bar by Nadim Abbas
For every great art event, there’s an greater booze trap nearby. Something to settle the nerves after dropping half a million on a painting, perhaps? Hong Kong artist Nadim Abbas took the call to action and designed this year’s Art Basel Art Bar, inspired by an apocalyptic bunker and his own interest in the conflict between domesticity and warfare. It comes complete with bespoke Absolut cocktails served in plastic retort pouches and a nightly changing program of live music, theater and film.

Chai Wan Mei
This annual event is a celebration of local art and design, hosted by two Chai Wan gallery stalwarts: Platform China and the 10 Chancery Lane Annex, with locations spread across the warehouses and open air spaces of the area. A cutting-edge selection of fine art exhibitions, “guerrilla art interventions,” and open air film screenings, artist performances, workshops, fashion pop-ups and open studio cocktail events round out the itinerary. There will be a free shuttle bus that takes you from Central to Chai Wan, via the Hong Kong Convention Centre in Wan Chai.
