Homemade Machines Take Flight in the Hong Kong Red Bull Flugtag
DIY aircrafts, inspired by a mix of hilarious and humanitarian themes, took flight—kinda sorta—at the Red Bull Flugtag at the New Central Harbourfront this past weekend.

Around 40,000 spectators came out to the Red Bull Flugtag yesterday, as aspiring aviators gathered around the New Central Harbourfront to launch their creative flying machines—inspirations ranged from bunker beds and iconic Hong Kong canned fish to burgers and Flappy Bird.

The goal? The aviation designers sent their creations competed to see which design could fly the farthest. Spoiler alert: the majority of the 43 teams ended up nose-diving into the water straight away, resulting in rapturous laughter among the onlookers.
The design from the winning team, Outsign.Lab, represented "an angry employee" who was fed up with pressure from work—only "flying" a few meters before crashing into the water.
Other teams weren't too fussy about aerodynamics, focusing on eye-catching designs either for a laugh or to convey deeper social and political messages.
