Room Escape Games in Hong Kong

Room escape games started out as online adventures, in which you had to solve puzzles and click your way to freedom. But in the last two years they’ve made the shift from internet fun to reality. The idea: you’re locked inside a room stuffed full of puzzles, and you’ve got to get out in an hour or less. As the dread builds and the claustrophobia sinks in, there’s just one question to ask: do you have what it takes to escape?

Amaze60

Amaze60 prides itself on genuinely difficult hour-long challenges. There are six different rooms. In Dead or Alive, you have 60 minutes to escape from a gangster who’s trying to kill you. Before you know it, you’re shackled to the wall—and then the lights go out. As you fumble around in the darkness, you’ll find random objects in arm’s reach, like flashlights... or a severed hand. Claustrophobia creeps in as you’re trapped and handcuffed in this small, uncomfortably silent room.

From $98. Room 508, Winful Centre, 30 Shing Yip St., Kwun Tong, 3460-3282.

Mr. Escape

Mong Kok’s Mr. Escape has two rooms available in English. In Vagus of the Office, you find yourself the victim of sexual assault at the hands of your boss, and it’s up to you to find evidence hidden in his office, and the key to get out, before he returns. In
Drifting Classroom, you are locked in a classroom and you’ve also got just 45 minutes to escape, using your inherent powers of Sudoku and knowledge of the periodic table. You only get one chance to ask for help, so use it carefully.

$98. 3/F, 70 Sai Yeung Choi St. South, Mong Kok, 2985-8085.

Lost HK

Lost HK has 12 different escape rooms in three venues in Mong Kok, Causeway Bay and Lan Kwai Fong. We checked out Castiglione in CWB, where 12 zodiac statues have been stolen from an old summer palace. Your job is to retrieve them from the thief and get out in 45 minutes. The room itself is well crafted, so you’ll enjoy exploring the area, and historical touches lend an air of authenticity. There’s also a cool little fireplace when you enter: so when you give up, you can just relax until time’s up.
