Tallore, NOM, Marimekko Pop-up and Zai Fe

Tallore

Souper Bowl

Two nostalgic Belgians hankering for the soup and sandwich bars that are a dime-a-dozen in their home country have come up with Tallore (7-17 Amoy St., Wan Chai, 2327-8360). The takeout shop in Wan Chai is hoping to become a go-to lunch spot for busy office workers in the area. Customers can choose from a handful of daily soups such as pumpkin and honey or broccoli and mustard, to go with pastas, salads and sandwiches. The emphasis here is on light and healthy ingredients, so don’t expect any heavy chowders or decadent bisques.

Hungry With a Chance of Meatballs

Even though NOM (1-5 Elgin St., Central, 2540-7988) is short for Not Only Meatballs, it is, at its core, an Italian meatball bar—the aforementioned balls make up a good portion of both the snacks and the a la carte menu. But the rustic-looking NOM does stock many other things besides, like pizza, seafood and pasta. And the meatballs themselves don’t seem to be confined to beef: there are also lamb, pork, squid and vegetarian (umm... don’t ask me how this works) varieties.

Color Me Unikko

It’s a colorful affair at Common Ground (19 Shing Wong St., Sheung Wan, 2818-8318) from now until June 23. Finnish brand Marimekko is hosting a pop-up that has the cafe all covered up in its signature poppy print (aka the unikko print) to celebrate the pattern’s 50th birthday. CG’s twin owners Josh and Caleb have prepared a Nordic open-sandwich topped with smoked salmon and goat’s cheese to go along with the theme, and guests will be able to drink coffee out of adorable Marimekko cups.
