1. Go for a swim
Sha Ha Beach (Sai Kung Town, New Territories) is our top choice, with plenty of dog-friendly restaurants available nearby. Alternatively, you could take the slow ferry from Central Ferry Pier 6 to Mui Wo, and then catch a cab to the lovely Cheung Sha Beach (South Launtau Road, Launtau Island, 2980-2114, www.lcsd.gov.hk). Very close-by is Pui O Beach (South Lantau Road, Lantau Island). At Pui O, relax at Mavericks (5402-4154, www.facebook.com/maverickshk), a chill alfresco bar that's extremely dog-friendly, though pups must be leashed inside.
More:
- Shek O: the beach by the village
- Stanley: watersports area
Tip: Provide fresh water and available shade throughout the day, and be sure to discourage your dog from drinking salt water.

2. Cook up some treats
To make yummy canine-safe ice cream sandwiches, blend a banana, unsalted peanut butter, and organic yogurt until smooth. Top with a doggie biscuit, and freeze. For some puppy popsicles, freeze sodium-free chicken or beef broth in ice trays or muffin tins, and mix in your dog's favorite foods, like baby carrots, apple slices, or chicken. Can't hack it in the kitchen? For store-bought goodies, visit the Three Dog Bakery for healthy baked snacks (multiple stores including G/F, 3 Min Fat St., Happy Valley, 2887-8400, www.threedog.com.hk).
