Sat 19 - Tea for Tuhao Shanghai-based collector Liu Yiqian becomes a symbol of the “tuhao” phenomenon—rich but vulgar Chinese elites—thanks to a photo posted online of him drinking tea from a $280 million Ming Dynasty “Chicken Cup.” He bought the porcelain cup in a Sotheby’s auction in April and completed the transaction in Hong Kong yesterday, by swiping his credit card 24 times. He poured tea into the cup and drank, saying “Emperors have drunk from the cup; I want to absorb the spiritual forces.”
