HK Magazine: When did you start learning about fortune telling?
Ms. Ng: When I was small, there was a family incident that led me to believe everyone has their own fate with an unchangeable orbit. I started to read books about astrology, which were popular among my schoolmates. Gradually, I got familiar with various kinds of Chinese fortune telling, such as Bazi and Zi Wei Dou Shu. In the end, I decided to stick with Zi Wei Dou Shu as it is more reliable than other methods.

HK: How does the Global Fortune Teller Contest work?
MN: The competition gives us seven real-life case studies, each with five multiple-choice questions on what happened to the person in a certain year. As I use Zi Wei Dou Shu, I believe everyone has four primary components surrounding their birth—Year, Month, Day and Time— which acts as a kind of DNA for one’s fate. This information is vital to viewing someone’s charts.

HK: Can you predict my destiny?
MN: Well from your past, I can see that… [omitted as details are personal]. As for the future, if you decide to write about this in a magazine, then it may be too personal. Also, there are some details I cannot look into, namely about children and marriage. The lines are blurred in modern society: sometimes people live together without getting married. But I can use my experience to guess.

HK: Wow, you’re right about my past! Can you see the future of Hong Kong?
MN: A place is not like a person who has an exact date and time of birth. Some people may use the Handover as the birth of Hong Kong, and some may use the time when it became a colony, or we can even use the time it was discovered by humans. We can hardly be sure when it was actually born. Maybe try asking a feng shui master?

HK: Can feng shui help Hong Kong?
MN: No... If gems and décor are as magical as feng shui masters claim, then why don’t they keep them to improve their own lives?

HK: Is it possible to change our fate?
MN: I do not believe there is a way to change fate. As a fortune teller, my responsibility lies in helping you understand and realize your upcoming destiny. For example, if I foresee a future where you lose loads of money, the only thing I can do is warn you to be prepared and more cautious with financial decisions. There’s no way to escape your fate, but you may be able to lose less money.
