HK Magazine: How long have you been designing sex toys?
Susanna: After graduating with a degree in philosophy, I spent six years helping European sex toy companies design and manufacture their products. Then last June, I decided to establish my own company, ML Creation, as I always have hundreds of sex toy ideas in my mind. It was tough to work alone at first—I spent a lot of time running around factories in China to find the perfect engineer, but I am proud to say that our booth was one of the most popular at the recent Asia Adult Expo.

HK: What does ML stand for?
S: Most people initially think that it would mean Make Love, as it is a sex toy company. To me, every interpretation is acceptable, and there is no definite answer for the brand. It could be My Lady, My Love or Money Life—whatever you want it to be.

HK: How do you test your products?
S: Unlike the preconception of sex toys being vulgar, my design principle aims to be sleek, stylish and beautiful—for both men and women. Before I confirm a design, I face the mirror with the sex toy around my face and ask myself if this product enhances the beauty of oneself. For product sample testing, I try it out first. After that, I have a couple of overseas friends who will share their opinions. I have never once received a complaint from any user saying that my design could not help them achieve an orgasm.

HK: How common are sex toys in Hong Kong?
S: Compared to China, Hong Kong is relatively conservative in using sex toys for pleasure. I have been in China for years, and I’ve noticed an increasing trend among younger people using toys. Five years ago, if you wanted to find a sex toy shop in China, you might need to go down a dark alley in the middle of night. Now you can find stores all over the place—even the workers in the sex toy factories will purchase them and enjoy themselves.
