Janice Vidal
Cantopop singer Janice Vidal has been in the industry for almost a decade. Going by the Cantonese stage name Wei Lan, she is the protégé of one of the “Four Heavenly Kings,” Leon Lai. She is also the twin sister of fellow singer, Jill Vidal. Ahead of her concert, she tells Andrea Lo about her struggles with weight, finding her faith, and the way fame has affected her love life.

I’m half-Korean, half-Filipino. I was born and raised in Hong Kong.
It’s hard as a mixed kid in Hong Kong. Sometimes I feel westernized, because of the friends I hang out with. My mentality can be quite Korean: I like to be in control of everything.
I speak Cantonese semi-fluently, plus a little bit of Tagalog, Korean and Putonghua.
My sister Jill and I grew up in a musical environment. My dad is a musician.
I never thought I could actually put out records. I just loved singing.
I started singing demos. Record producer Mark Lui got hold of an album and heard a song that I was in, and said he wanted the vocals in Leon Lai’s backing track.
