Pausa for Thought
A Roman import from Italian duo Francesco and Marco, hole-in-the-wall Pausa is a by-the-slice pizza eatery along trendy Ship Street. There are five toppings to choose from: margherita, spicy salami, ham and mushroom, parma ham and rocket, plus a daily special, with prices ranging from a modest $30-40 a slice.
Pizzazz Points: The dough is leavened in Rome before it’s shipped here to achieve a crispy base that’s full of airy bubbles.
Delivery? Nope, dine-in and take-out only.

A Piccolo of Italy
Located in Kennedy Town, Piccolo Pizzeria has a casual neighborhood vibe, and Italian comfort food to match. The signature pancetta pizza ($130-145) comes topped with cheese, tomato, pancetta and… an egg. At first, we were like “Egg? On a pizza?” but a few bites is all it took to get us on board. Though it was admittedly hard to share due the runny, bright orange yolk. The dough is good too, with a nicely charred crust.
Pizzazz Points: If you opt to eat in the restaurant, you’re in for a treat. The drink of choice is sangria—not to mention that chef Cheryl’s tiramisu is said to be more than worth your while.
Delivery? For sure. Piccolo Express can drop the pie at your door if you live anywhere between Tai Hang and Western District.

Piccolo: Egg, meet Pizza
Against the Grano
Cooperating with the University of Pizza in Italy (no, seriously, that’s a thing),  Grano  Italiano throws together an awesome pie. Costing $118-145, the pizzas here are made with Italian  grains and even fancy water from the Italian Alps. Choose your own toppings, or go with a delicious Grano Italiano, which practically buckles under the fresh mozzarella, parma ham, rocket, parmesan. No skimping, for sure, but it’s a headache to share. 
Pizzaz Points: The vegetarian pizza, piled high with a rainbow of guilt-free goodness, was one of the prettiest pizzas we have ever seen. Big points for presentation!

It’s a veggie delight at Grano Italiano

Our favorite thing about Motorino’s Naples-inspired pizza is probably its signature charred thin crusts. Though a little oily, the Soppressata Piccante pizza ($148) is one of our all-around favorites in Hong Kong, thanks to the hearty kick from the salami and pockets of oozy cheese. That being said, we’d skip the comparatively bland Brussels sprouts pie.
Pizzazz Points: Motorino is always coming up with great promotions, like Date Night—a pizza of your choice, bottle of Gragnano pizza wine and tiramisu for $388—and the Negroni happy hour, where $38 buys the iconic  Italian cocktail from 4-7pm at the Ship Street location.

Eights in Spades
New-York-style 208 Duecento Otto spills out onto Hollywood Road and oozes personality. Its wood-fired Napoli pizzas, served on wooden boards, are what you come here for: the bases are thin and light, the crusts are fluffy, and the toppings are packed full of flavor. The diavola ($198) has a tangy tomato sauce that complements the fiery salami, and the prosciutto, parmesan and rocket pizza ($208) doesn’t skimp on the toppings—if anything this makes it a tad too salty.
Pizzazz Points: If you love a good lunch deal, you can dig into an unlimited antipasti buffet plus an 8-inch pizza for $138.

208’s prosciutto e rucola pizza
Max it Out
The first thing you’ll notice on a Jacomax pizza is the adorable mini table topper—a nice touch. The Pizza Inferno ($150) was a hit: it mixes tomato, mozzarella, spicy salame paste nduja (a pork sausage from Italy), and gorgonzola for a savory and surprising blend of flavors. Though toppings tend to be chaotically placed, the pizza sauce had a slightly sweet flavor that we loved.
Pizzazz Points: We have to give Jacomax props for its all-natural ingredients—the manager, Jacopo Contiero, hand-makes the dough several times a day. For a relaxed spot to grab a quick bite, try the recently renovated branch in Sheung Wan.

Sergeant Pepperoni’s
Back when a good pizza pie was almost impossible to find in Hong Kong, Pepperoni’s was serving thick-crusted cheesy pizzas out in Sai Kung. The partially alfresco, dog-friendly family restaurant has been around since the early 90s, and is still going strong with awesome pizzas, ribs and burgers. Pizza-wise it’s pretty simple: You best like cheese, and expect to get messy.
Pizzaz Points: Our long-standing favorites are the classic pepperoni, the “Beefy” (ham, sausage, salami and pepperoni), and the barbecue chicken pizza with mushrooms and bell peppers—all ranging from $115-165, depending on the size.
Delivery? You got it. Pepperonis delivers to the lucky folks in Sai Kung, Clearwater Bay and anywhere along Sai Sha Road before Ma On Shan. Call the hotline to place an order: 2869-1766.
